Buying guide

What to look for in a family EV

Aim for at least 350 km WLTP range (real-world ~280–320 km). Boot space of 400L+ is comfortable for a family of four. Check whether 7-seat configurations are available and whether the third row is usable for adults or teens.

Battery chemistry matters for families

LFP batteries (BYD, MG) can be charged to 100% daily with no long-term harm — ideal when you need maximum range for an unexpected trip. NMC batteries (Hyundai, Kia) offer longer range but prefer to stay below 80% for daily charging.

ANCAP safety ratings

All the EVs shown here have current 5-star ANCAP ratings. Check the test year — a 5-star rating from 2020 reflects lower standards than a 2023 rating. Newer test years include more stringent child occupant and vulnerable road user tests.
